One more thought...

In the course of getting all worked up on my soapbox, I forgot to mention one other egregiously bad comment that was made last night - by Randall. His comment that one needs to have grown up on cornbread (I can't remember the full quote) in order to be able to have the soul that the Beyonce song required was also completely uncalled for, not to mention thoroughly untrue. The thinly veiled implication that only black people can sing with soul is incomprehensible, and calling up such a tired stereotype even more so.
