Talking with Pume...

I had a chance to have a quick chat with Pume this afternoon to get her thoughts on the elimination, being an Idol contestant, and what's in store for her future.

As with Bonolo, one of Pume's strengths is her poise. She seems to be taking her elimination in stride, pointing out that at the end of the day, there are still eight more contestants who will also be eliminated, leaving only one true Idol for 2005. Who would does Pume think will take the title? Her vote goes to Mr. Cool himself, Gift Gwe.

Pume was surprised at being eliminated this week, as she felt she did her very best, and was pleased with her performance. So what went wrong? She thinks maybe it wasn't a matter of her losing votes, but other contestants gaining votes, landing her in the unfortunate position of last. She doesn't appear to have any regrets though, and leaves knowing that she did her best. She says the first thing she did after being eliminated was cry, but her first thought was that she was glad that she was going to be able to escape the Jo'burg heat and get to the beach.

So what's next for Pume? Finishing varsity this year, and possibly taking a gap year next year to focus on her singing. One thing she learned from the Idols experience is that music is what she wants to do, and the music industry is where she belongs. Her heart really lies in R&B and Soul, so that is where she will probably focus her efforts, although she does like Pop music as well.

Finally, I asked her whether she had any advice for future Idols hopefuls. "Live the experience," she says, and to take all the things learned during the competition with them, because those lessons are always going to be helpful, even if they don't win, and can help a contestant make a successful career for themselves even without the Idols crown.

Best of luck to Pume; looking forward to hearing more from her in the future!
