Talk Back: Song Selections and Predictions

Nice and early this time around, they've released the song selections for Sunday's Live Spectacular. Paying tribute to some all-time greats, the Top 4 have a great lineup in store for us:

Nicky – ''It’s All Coming Back To Me'', Celine Dion; ''How Do I Live'', LeAnn Rimes
Karin – ''When I Need You'', Leo Sayer; ''I Have Nothing'', Whitney Houston
Gift – ''Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me'', George Michael; ''Stuck On You'', Lionel Richie
V – ''Touch Me In The Morning'', Diana Ross; ''Rhythm Of the Night'' Valeria

What a great selection of songs - there isn't a loser in the bunch. And with one more week to prove that they belong in the final, the Top 4 have made what should be very adept choices for themselves.

Perhaps encouraged by Dave's admiration for her ability to pull off the big ballads, Nicky has two powerhouse songs on the slate. Having proven her hand at handling the most challenging songs, I think she will do well with both of these. With big songs comes the requirement for big performances, and this could be the only major stumbling block from the Girl from Bloem. Will she be able to evoke the same powerful emotions with her stage performance as with her vocal abilities?

Karin plays to her best strengths, and should deliver both vocally and emotionally. While she sometimes struggles to deliver the right performance with more up-tempo songs, these two emotional numbers are right up her alley. I predict tears on the judging panel, and all across the country as she secures herself a spot in the final.

The last contestant to bring the Y chromosome to the table, Gift also has a duo of winning numbers. "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" is the only George Michael song that ever gave me goosebumps, and after his deft handling of "Faith", Gift has proven that he can do more than just channel the ex-Whammite. This will be one of Gift's biggest numbers vocally, hopefully he can deliver the power that it needs. And Lionel Richie's "Stuck On You" should have South Africa stuck on him, being a song perfectly suited to his clear voice and sexy charm.

V brings a little contrast to the game, with Diana Ross' tender "Touch Me In The Morning" and Valeria's cover of DeBarge's "Rhythm of the Night". I think the Valeria number will prove the more challenging of the two, as some people still question her ability to do the fun and funky songs, but with a fierce fanbase, nothing short of showing up in pantaloons and a red rubber nose will stop her from going through to the final alongside Karin.

A very promising selection, and one that will make it more difficult than ever to decide who goes home. My predictions? I think two people will leave this Monday. Despite strong improvement and growing fanbases, I think Nicky and Gift will bid adieu this week, leaving the stage ripe for a showdown of epic proportions between Karin and V. Who will win?

Your guess is as good as mine!
